My Top 5 … Concerts
•July 6, 2007 • 3 CommentsWow, it seems it’s been a while since I felt the urge to write something on here. There is no doubt I could make tons of excuses for that (no inspiration, exams, busy with other stuff,…) but nobody cares about that anyway so whatever.
I just went to Werchter Festival on the 1st of July. Normally I go all 4 days, but since last year there happened to be a fucking heatwave and at the end of the fourth day I was practically sweating sunblock through every pore, I decided this year to only go 1 day. Why this specific day? Because Metallica was main staging! Not that I’m a diehard Metallica fan. You won’t here me yelling all the lyrics, although I do tend to mimic the guitarsounds (yes, my friends do really hate me for this!). BUT I always considered Metallica one of those must-see-live-bands-once because when they play live they seem to send out a different kind of vibe or atmosphere when they give a concert. Anyway, after witnessing quite a few bands live, I thought it was about time I gave you (or anyone who cares to read on after this) my Top 5 concerts.
1. Metallica
Seen at Rock Werchter 2007.

This is not one of the bands on my list that I know best, I play a little guitar myself and have to say that apart from trying to master an intro from one of their songs, I never tried mastering any solo’s that followed the next 6 minutes. There are just a little too many of them… I do have to say that, when performed live, the solo’s (and entire songs for that matter) are performed impeccable and this adds to the whole semi-macho vibe they send off into the crowd. Honoustly, when Metallica performed last sunday, I’ve never seen a bigger crowd on the field than with any of the other bands performing that day. Crowd interaction from James Hetfield and the band in total were great and the half-an-hour-encore did not dissapoint.

2. Tool
Seen at Rock Werchter 2006.

This band was close to becoming first. What Tool lacks in crowd interaction, they make up for with their charismatic band Frontman Maynard (pictures). The music blasted with an impressive amount of volume through the speakers and the overall concert reminded me that the music Tool supplies us with, well… just kicks ass! They may not fill the field with a huge crowd, but none the less their fanbase keeps growing every year, and considering they hardly ever (not to say never) release a music video or emphasise the new release of a cd, I must say that is quite impressive.
3. Foo Fighters
Seen at Rock Werchter 2005 and Vorst Nationaal (2006).
I’ve been somewhat a fan of Foo Fighters and although I don’t listen to their music that much lately, they sure have earned a spot in my top 5 concertlist. Frontman Dave Grohl really takes the stage on every concert and definitly gets the crowd going (this more notable at Vorst Nationaal than at Rock Werchter 2005, because the latter is after all a festival). Besides that, their music is always good to hear and I can say the same for when it is performed live.
4. Muse
Seen at Rock Werchter 2006.
Number 4 and 5 on this list are close to being on the same position, actually they should be. I put Muse on spot number 4, because after all we are still rating concerts here and I want to keep the emphasis on the music more than anything else. Well, not much to say about Muse. Good music, performed well, good vibe, good concert.
5. Rammstein
Seen at Rock Werchter 2005.
Dinner and a show! As previously put, if Muse got number 4 for music, Rammstein should have gotten number 4 for the show. I mean, these guys have both the charisma ànd the theatrics on stage to entertain you or make your jaw drop to the floor, even if you don’t like their music. I for one, also like their music so that concert was 90 minutes well spent.

You Sir! Are a Turd!
•May 4, 2007 • 4 CommentsThat’s right, I said it! A Turd!
And not you’re average brown little turd. NOOOOO way! You are the smelly, rotten kind of turd. The one that makes nuclear waste jealous! The kind that smells so bad, it makes you wonder whether that salad you had for breakfast was such a good idea! You are all the infested disease in this world, you infest society’s colon and by God, you get us constipated! We can’t just squeeze you out. Impossible! You tend to cling on, and when we almost get you out, you take on the hard measures.
You go kamikaze.
You know what kamikaze means right?
Greenish.
Smooth.
Dripping.
Diarrhea.
Our toilet will never be the same. We need to replace it. You. Are not. Worthy! Of porcelain! You hear me???
Now get of my lap before I flush you into the sewer!
